Interview with Emily Hertz, Founder of Born on Fifth
We are thrilled to launch our newest edition of The Basket Weave with everyone's favorite 'follow,' the smart and gracious Atlanta-based blogger Emily Hertz, Founder of Born on Fifth and Bows & Blue.
Emily has been a supporter of Pamela Munson for years and we have been so inspired by her story and watching her business thrive through her blog and shopping site, brand Bows & Blue - which is an extension of her feminine, grandmillennial style - to her recent RTW collaboration with Antonio Melani. Pam met Emily in 2019 and was impressed by her ability to smartly navigate the social space and build her brand in a way that was truly authentic.
Read on to learn more about this soon-to-be mother of three's story and style.
Tell us about your brand, Bows & Blue, and career trajectory.
A few years after starting my blog Born on Fifth, I was inspired to offer products to layer into people’s homes and lives. Bows and Blue was informed by my feminine and ethereal aesthetic and carries products that appeal to the grandmillennial gal!
What inspires you? Many of Pam’s designs are inspired by childhood travel memories and time with her family, do you have a go-to source of inspiration?
I’m inspired by everything from florals and beautiful interior design to old magazine spreads and coffee table books!
Do you have any treasured travel memories with your family? Or destinations you keep going back to? Where do you go and what was your favorite memory?
We love Blackberry Farm, and have been going since Elle was a baby. It’s a special place, heavenly in fact, that is perfect no matter the season.
Can you share with us one of your family travel traditions? What puts you at ease and ready to relax?
Our family has a home in Scotland (here now, actually!) and it’s the most wonderful and relaxing place to visit. The natural beauty of the country, combined with the breathtaking rose garden and delightful bow molding in the music room where I’m sitting are awe-inspiring. The men love to golf here, which always makes them relaxed before we continue on to London to shop!
We have to ask: what’s in your bag? Tell us about your everyday essentials in your Pamela Munson bag.
Lately, a mask, my Gucci wallet, a lip gloss or two (that I always forget to put on), car keys and cell phone! I’m a minimalist through and through.
You are one of our favorite people to follow and we love how you stay so true to your style and specifically your color story. How has your style changed since becoming a mother of soon-to-be three?
That’s so kind! I have really leaned into the colors that make me at ease, all while keeping my sophisticated, feminine and ethereal eye at the forefront of all I wear and put in my home. You know, besides some of the children’s toys, though those have gotten more aesthetically pleasing as time has gone on!
You have impeccable taste with the most refined eye. What is your favorite style from our Resort 2022 Collection?
Give me ALL the gingham, please!
Straw isn’t solely reserved for summer or beach getaways – how will you be styling your Pamela Munson handbag for the fall season?
I love mixing materials and agree, it’s fun to play with texture all year long. The gingham tote styles are perfect for the pumpkin patch!
If you could take your new Pamela Munson handbag anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I’d take her back to my favorite place, Hotel du Cap! She would fit in perfectly ;)
